As we grow older, it becomes increasingly important to make productive and healthy food choices, whether that be with the drinks we consume or our larger meals. What Does A Healthy Diet Consist Of?

Productive daily eating consists of numerous different types of food with varying flavors and nutrients. Nutritionists recommend eating 5 portions or more of different fruits and vegetables a day, in addition to high fiber foods, dairy, and protein. They also stress the importance of consuming an adequate amount of carbohydrates, vitamins, proteins, and water daily to keep our body and bones strong.

To expand on the fruits and vegetables, this grouping includes leafy greens like broccoli, lettuce, and cabbage, nutritious berries, citrus fruits, and many other foods. The high-fiber foods category mainly consists of wheat-based foods like rice and whole grains, but also includes potatoes, fruits, and beans. We are all familiar with dairy products, the most popular being milk, yogurt, and cheese, and foods rich in protein include various types of meat, eggs, beans.

We need to consume these foods regularly in order to provide our body with the nutrients and supplements it needs to carry out bodily functions and maintain homeostasis, such as potassium, iron, Vitamin A, and Vitamin D.

Another component of maintaining a healthy diet is cutting out the foods that can lead to health problems in the future. This consists of sugary drinks, fatty delectables like cakes and candies, and fried or oily foods. Overconsumption of these types of food can exponentially increase your chances of contracting life-threatening diseases in the future, which is why it is important to eat them in moderation and balance them out with healthier sustenance.

Though counting calories is efficient, you should not go overboard with the task and become overly fixated with the numbers to the point where it is an obsession. Count calories in a healthy, productive way!

And finally, the most important and most effective way to maintain a healthy diet is staying educated on different types of foods and the health benefits and risks of consuming them. At the end of the day, we are discouraged from eating foods that could shorten our lifetimes, so education has built-in self control. When you know the nutritional value of what you are eating, you can avoid accidentally consuming something that has excess sugar or oil, which leads to a healthier and happier future.
