Understanding cardiovascular diseases in men
Heart diseases are a leading cause of death in men the United States causing about 1 in 4 male deaths. Half of the men who die of heart diseases don’t show any prior symptoms.
What are the risk factors?
Some of the risk factors are:
Tobacco users or smokers
Harmful use of alcohol
Infection of fever, virus, or Heart
What are the symptoms?
Chest pain, chest tightness, chest pressure, and chest discomfort
Shortness of breath
Pain in the neck, jaw, throat, upper abdomen, or back
How can I reduce the risk of heart diseases?
Have your blood pressure under control. Uncontrolled Hypertension can result in heart disease.
Lowering your hemoglobin A1C. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to heart disease. Please discuss with your provider if you are concerned about diabetes or have a strong family history of diabetes.
Quit smoking. If you don’t smoke, don’t start.
Check your cholesterol and triglyceride levels with your health care provider.
Develop healthy eating habits. Obesity raises your risk of heart disease.
Limit alcohol intake to one drink a day.
Lower your stress level and find healthy ways to cope with stress.
