Understanding depression and anxiety in men
On an anverage 1 in 8 men is depressed and 1 in 5 men experience anxiety at some stage of their life. Men are less likely to talk about their anxiety or depression. So, there are many chances for their depression to go unrecognized and untreated. Unrecognized depression can lead to a lot of mental health issues. It is recognized as the prime reason for suicide. It is important to recognize anxiety and depression as conditions and not weakness and undergo appropriate treatment to control it.
What are the symptoms?
Physical signs of anxiety may include:
pounding or racing heart
excessive sweating
muscle tension
restlessness or agitation
dizziness and vertigo
shortness of breath or choking sensations
insomnia
panic attacks.
hopelessness
loss of interest (especially in previously enjoyed activities)
suicidal ideation (thoughts of self-harm)
increase or decrease in appetite
weight gain.
